Meet Rannie

Rannie was going about her normal day when an unexpected moment changed the course of her health. While running errands with her husband, a flyer was handed to her introducing her to AccessHealth. Intrigued, she called the number, provided her information, and within two days, she was approved for care. It didn’t take long before she was on her way to the Second Mile Clinic located in Missouri City. It was there that she met Dr. Shore.

Her first visit was a routine checkup, which included a physical exam and blood work. Dr. Shore scheduled a follow-up visit in two weeks, but when the results came back, he wasn’t satisfied. The tests were repeated, and after the third visit, Dr. Shore delivered the news: Rannie had type 2 diabetes. He reassured her that the condition had been caught early, and with the right treatment and effort, she could avoid medication for a long time. However, had she not come in when she did, the results could have been much worse. Dr. Shore explained that, without treatment, she was on track for a heart attack and could have ended up in the ER.

Over the course of her treatment, Dr. Shore’s support made a huge difference. He didn’t sugarcoat the situation, and though it was hard for Rannie at first, she learned to trust him. "I have a hard time trusting doctors, but I trust him," she shared. "He helped me get over my fears and understand the importance of my diabetes medicine."

As her care continued, Dr. Shore went above and beyond. On her fifth visit, he found her an endocrinologist named Dr. Harvenson to help manage her diabetes more effectively. Along the way, Rannie had received support from AccessHealth’s staff, particularly Addy, who ensured she had the resources she needed. Addy went as far as calling an Uber for Rannie when her doctor’s visits were far from home, making sure she could get the care she needed. When Rannie needed a Nuclear Stress Test, Addy found an organization in less than two weeks to help cover the cost.

Addy is a Navigator, and her role involves linking patients to various resources and pathways that address their needs. Addy helps patients reach their goals and creates avenues for them to thrive. "The Integrated Client Journey program has provided significant support to many of our patients during difficult times," said Addy. "By adopting a holistic approach, it assists individuals and families at AccessHealth as they work towards achieving stability. The core mission of the Integrated Client Journey program is to connect people with opportunities."

Rannie’s journey hasn’t just been about her health; AccessHealth has supported her family in other ways. Her youngest son had lost all his clothes in a fire, and Addy was there to assist in getting him new clothes. "She is a sweetheart," Rannie said about Addy, who went above and beyond to aid the entire family with clothing needs.

Rannie’s journey is a testament to the power of having a trustworthy healthcare provider, receiving early chronic disease detection, and integrating into a support system like AccessHealth. With the help of AccessHealth staff like Dr. Shore and Addy, Rannie is now more in control of her health than ever before and knows she is not alone.
