About Rachael Marie Barrientos
Rachael Marie Barrientos is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPC-Associate) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) under the supervision of Catalina Eljure, LPC-S, LMFT-S, LSOTP-S. With a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, concentrating on Latinx Counseling from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Taylor University in Upland, IN, Rachael brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to her practice.
Her journey began as a case coordinator in rural Indiana, where she worked with children and families, focusing on skill building and home-based case management. Recognizing the significant need for Spanish-speaking therapists, Rachael pursued further education and training to address this gap and reduce barriers to mental healthcare for Spanish-speakers.
Rachael's graduate internship at the YWCA in Austin, TX, provided her with supervision and training in trauma resolution and relational-cultural therapy. As a participant in the Richmond Area Bilingual Fellows Program, she relocated to Fort Bend County, where she offers compassionate, collaborative, and connection-centered therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Her approach promotes mental, emotional, behavioral, spiritual, and relational well-being.
Specializing in culturally-appropriate counseling, Rachael addresses mental health issues related to immigration stress, acculturation difficulties, discrimination, grief, and intergenerational family conflict. She employs a trauma-informed approach and leverages the latest research in relational neuroscience to support her clients.
Rachael's unique background as a third-culture individual, having spent her childhood in both Illinois and the Dominican Republic, deeply informs her work. Her personal and professional experiences drive her commitment to the healing and wellness of individuals, families, and communities. Outside of her professional life, Rachael cherishes time with family, friends, music, and the great outdoors.
